TALL CASE CLOCK TOP RESTORATION

This grandfather clock was put in storage during a renovation, during which it sustained fire damage. If you look closely you can see that the design is a mirrored image with some of the original design still in place.

Other clues, difficult to see, are glue lines of the lost veneer pieces. Using the available clues I was able to reconstruct one complete design then by using my computer program to trace a photograph of the damage and produce a scale pattern and a mirrored design.

Once this was done I stripped all the damaged veneer, cleaned the substrate removed the molding and cut the new pattern into a mahogany field veneer, then centered and glued and clamped the assembly onto the clock when dried, the mahogany veneer was trimmed to match the substrate.

The final assembly and finishing was done by the customer who was in Newfoundland.
